The process to obtaining a better smile through porcelain veneers can be broken into 3 steps.

1.) Consultation

Before we start any oral treatment, we always sit down with you to discuss your full range of options. We make sure that you are aware of what dental treatments are best for your specific case. 2.) Preparation

Once it has been determined that porcelain veneers are a good match for your needs, we will begin preparing your teeth for the procedure. We carefully remove the top ½ millimeter layer of your teeth to create space for your new porcelain veneers. It is important that we do this so that the veneers will rest naturally on the surface of your teeth. Otherwise, your new porcelain veneers will make your teeth appear big and bulky. Local anesthesia can be used while removing the surface of your teeth if you decide it’s needed.

After the surface has been prepared, we make a mold of your top and bottom teeth and send the impressions to our lab. Your resulting porcelain veneers should be ready in about 1-2 weeks.

3.) Procedure

Before your new porcelain veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth, we tailor the veneer to further ensure a custom fit. These alterations may include trimming excess material and adjusting the color. Once your cosmetic dentist is satisfied with how the veneer fits and looks on the surface of your tooth, she will prepare your tooth for the bonding process.

The receiving tooth will be cleaned, polished, and etched to create a strong connection to the porcelain veneer. Cement will be used to bond your tooth to the new material. Your dentist will then use a special light beam to solidify the cement, creating a solid link between your tooth and the porcelain veneer.  Excess cement will be removed and your bite will be checked so that your new smile will fit as comfortable as possible.
